The Centre for Free Elections and Democracy monitors on Saturday, October 26, 2002 the elections for the local government bodies in Kosovo and Metohija. A total of 460 CeSID monitors monitor the process of voting at 172 polling stations in 18 municipalities on the territory of Kosovo and Metohija, as well as at 96 polling centres on the territory of Serbia and 14 polling centres on the territory of Montenegro.

A total of 5,700 candidates have been nominated for 920 mandates in 30 Municipal Assemblies in Kosovo and Metohija. A total of 1.32 million voters hold the voting right, out of which 1.2 million live in Kosovo, while 119,000 live outside the territory of this province. The polling stations have open at 07:00 hours and will close at 19:00 hours.
